Why, why, why, WHY create an Islamist stronghold in Europe?

Like the Palestinian Muslims, the Kosovo Albanians have never abstained from violence or terrorism. The KLA, like Hamas and Fatah are, was a terrorist organization. International powers eventually brought about its disbanding, and, in farcical stunt, created the officially recognized KPC (Kosovo Peace Corps), drawn from the very ranks of the KLA terrorists. Various KLA terrorists and “Kosovo” leaders have been indicted for war crimes (Ramush Haradinaj, former KLA regional leader who served for a time as Prime Minister of Kosovo, for instance); along with rape, murder and torture, many KLA members and their supporters manifested the Islamic nature of the conflict by destroying or vandalizing Serbian Orthodox churches. And, of course, just as other Islamic terrorists kill moderate Muslims, the KLA didn’t hesitate to butcher moderate Albanians. And, hey, guess what? The KLA -- that we supported and equipped, I might add -- was significantly linked to Middle Eastern Muslim terrorists...like Osama bin Laden, for instance.

So...Hashim Thaci has been quick to assure us, for those who actually CARE, that Kosovo the state will not be Islamic and will ensure the rights of all minorities; one imagines that this would go hand-in-hand with abandoning terrorism and terrorist ideology. Now the scoffers (myself, for instance) may scoff, but many world leaders (not least of all President Bush, who -- for all his “tough on terror” speak -- seems to lack a good deal of common sense) seem quick to agree. So what do facts indicate?

Well, sorry, President Bush, but facts are on the side of the scoffers. In initial celebrations of this blatant transgression of international law, guess who the Kosovo Albanians hailed?

In the capital, Pristina, the mood was jubilant. Thousands of ethnic Albanians braved subfreezing temperatures to ride on the roofs of their cars, singing patriotic songs and chanting: "KLA! KLA!" the acronym for the now-disbanded rebel Kosovo Liberation Army. They waved American flags alongside the red Albanian banner imprinted with a black, double-headed eagle.

That’s right, those terrorists with links to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda...

So my question is this: why would the United States primarily, but so many other nations as well, be determined to create a state that is very clearly linked with Islamic extremism? What is the rationale behind such madness? Is it the same as seems to be the world’s opinion regarding Israel: sacrifice THEM so the Islamists won’t notice US? This didn’t work in WWII, and it won’t work now. It wasn’t just the Serbs and the Jews then. It’s not just the Serbs and the Jews now.

Did we learn nothing from the mistakes leading up to WWII? The more you sacrifice to appease, the more you lose and the more the enemy gains. The enemy exploits your weaknesses and takes what you give; you lose allies, lives, territories and your honor. But the enemy doesn’t stop. Hitler and the Nazis didn’t yesterday. Islamists won’t today.
